Anti-Racism Training
Thursday, August 14 -or- Saturday, August, 16

Equipping the called for bridge-building justice across divisions of ethnicity, culture, language, and skin color is deeply necessary task in this season of congregational and neighborhood community. This training is intended for all congregation leaders: council, youth leaders, educators, social ministry leaders, and rostered ministers.

In this "train the trainer" model of anti-racism resource providing and sharing, we will

  • engage Biblical and Lutheran theological inspiration and understanding of cultural inclusion, share stories and resources of best practices and successes in a variety of contexts

  • receive best practice tools around outreach and building trusting community partnerships, navigating difficult conversations and outright disagreement

  • build strategies for higher level work that include and restoration practices such as reparations, nonviolent communication strategies, dismantling Christian Nationalism and restorative justice.

A program of our synod's Authentic Diversity and Justice Working Group.

Each attendee will receive a certificate for 6 hours of continuing education.

Location is fully wheelchair accessible.

Carla Christopher is Assistant to the Bishop for Justice Ministries for Lower Susquehanna and Delaware-Maryland Synods, ELCA Vital Congregations Training coordinator, member and instructor with the ELCA Evangelism Leadership Team, Coordinator for Racial Justice and LGBTQIA+ Cultural Competency Trainings with Kindling Faith at United Lutheran Seminary, Commission for A Renewed Lutheran Church Co-Chair, speaker, consultant, justice poet.
