Founded in 1866 as a coeducational institution in western Pennsylvania, Thiel College is an independent liberal arts college rooted in the Lutheran tradition. Located in Greenville, Pa., the College offers 60 majors and minors, 25 varsity sports, and an 11:1 student-faculty ratio, including a newly-launched Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology. A dedicated faculty paired with dynamic research and internship opportunities produce numerous graduate school and job placements.

Our rich history includes educating the first African-American ordained Lutheran priest, Daniel Payne, and the first woman ordained in the Lutheran church in the U.S., Elizabeth Platz. The Philadelphia campus dates back to the early days of Lutheranism in America, tracing its descent from the Ministerium of Pennsylvania founded by Rev. Henry Melchior Muhlenberg, the “Father of American Lutheranism,” in 1748.
