Ember Day: Leading in Prayer

AN ONLINE EMBER DAY* EDUCATIONAL EVENT FOR ROSTERED MINISTERS.

Spiritual leadership is a key component of healthy and thriving parish leadership. Our ordination vows charge us to pray for God's people. This key part of ministry can be easily pushed to the side by busyness. As one committed to the spiritual discipline of prayer, Bishop Abraham Allende returns to our synod to lead a day focused on prayer, the people, and the ministry.

Bring your trusted prayer resources with you, as we will share with the group about what we use for daily prayer.

Ember Days help us to rekindle a passion for gospel by dedicating periodic days of study and refreshment.

RSVP BY MONDAY, February 13
$7 REGISTRATION FEE

Prior to election as bishop, he had been serving The Lutheran Church of the Covenant in Maple Heights, Ohio, and previously served as Pastor and Mission Developer of Iglesia Luterana La Trinidad in Canton, Ohio.

During his time in the office of bishop, he served as co-convener of the ELCA’s Task Force for a Strategy Toward Authentic Diversity. Bishop Allende continues to serve on the Advisory Task Force for the implementation of the strategy. As bishop, he also sat on the Conference of Bishops’ Immigration Ready Bench, and the Global Mission Liaison Committee. He has also served on the Committee for Ministry Among People in Poverty.

* Unfamiliar with the tradition of Ember Days? Philip H. Pfatteicher sheds light on these observances in Journey into the Heart of God: Living the Liturgical Year:

"The turning of the four season of the natural world has been incorporated into the church's calendar. These are the Ember Days, the name derived from the German Quatember, a corruption of quattuor tempore, "the four times." ... Recognizing an increasing estrangement from the agricultural setting of the Church's calendar, [the Church] replaced the Ember Days with prayer for various needs set by regional conferences of Bishops... but eventually replaced by quarterly lectures and examinations in the catechism."
