Program Descriptions for SW PA Stewardship Event (October 11)
1. Stewardship as Mission—A New Vision for the Church
Financial stewardship is not primarily about “fund-raising” but about living as individuals and communities who participate in the reign of God. The Bible does not present stewardship as a means for funding the church’s mission – rather, stewardship is our mission!
2. Belonging to God—The Biblical Basis for Stewardship
What the Bible actually teaches about stewardship – time, talents, and treasures – is surprisingly good news, Simply put, biblical stewardship is about enjoying a closer, more joyful relationship with our God. As presented in the Bible, stewardship is not just about fund-raising: it is a way of life–and for many of us, it just might be the way to a better life!
3. Faithful Living—Money and Discipleship
Stewardship programs come and go, but what the Bible has to say about how people acquire, regard, manage and spend their money remains relevant and, often, surprisingly appealing. Biblical teaching on this topic can be realistic, practical, and gospel-oriented—and offers some keen advice for people in tough economic times.
4. Duty and Delight—Motivating Generosity
Churches do need money to operate—and church members ought to support their congregations in responsible ways. But annual fund drives only focus on immediate needs. An overall yearlong emphasis on stewardship seeks to transform the very culture of the community so that people who delight in becoming the grateful and generous people they truly want to be.
