I Think You’re Wrong (But I’m Listening): A Guide to Grace-filled Political Conversations
By Sarah Stewart Holland and Beth Silvers
There is no question that this time in country and our world is putting great stress on our relationships. The political divide in our country is polarizing our families, our communities, and our congregations. Written by two friends who understand themselves to be in opposite political positions, “I Think You’re Wrong (But I’m Listening)” is the result of their intentional and careful work of hosting and modeling grace filled conversations on topics that are often divisive.
This January, lay leaders and clergy alike can join with members of synod staff, the Authentic Diversity & Justice and Stewardship committees for a 4 part series discussing this book which offers excellent tools for you to use in your congregation and your relationships. The book does not debate issues, but rather offers gracious approaches to conversations which can lead us down the path of healing and wholeness in our communities.
There will be 4 study group gatherings for 4 consecutive weeks. Each week we will offer the same discussion at two different times in order to accommodate various schedules. You are welcome to join one or both discussions or join different ones each week, on Wednesdays at 7 PM and Thursdays at 1 PM beginning January 20 and 21.

The structure of our time together will include a general gathering, thoughts on the book and then, depending on the size of the group, breakout sessions where conversation will continue with the discussion questions. Questions? Contact Pastor Melissa Stoller at melissa.stoller@elca.org.
Where to find the book:
Amazon - In addition to hardcover and soft cover editions, Amazon offers a kindle, or e-reader option and audio book option as well.
Barnes and Noble - Your nearby B&N may have a copy waiting on the shelf that you can order for contactless pick up. Give them a call!
Christian Book online store also has many options to read this book:
Partner with a local book store! Give them a call, find out if they can get it for you from their supplier, if they do not already have it on hand. For example, local bookshop, the White Whale, partners with a larger supplier.
Your local library! Libraries are working through this time in creative ways (as libraries always are!) Some may be offering contactless pick up, but many offer e-books and audio books you can check out on line. Give them a try!
And finally, try your friends and colleagues. Many of us have collections of books that we are most happy to lend and share with others. Put out the word on social media, and see if anyone might be willing to share their copy.
