October Calendar of Causes
Thank you for this opportunity to share an update with our Lutheran partners on Community Three for One this month! There’s always a question about the numbers in our name: Is it an address or part of a phone number, or what? The 3 represents the collaboration of Lutherans, Presbyterians and the Brookline city neighborhood. The 4 is on behalf of the 1, Christ for everyone one! We are “by, for and with” the folks God has called us to serve.
Our mission to feed and nurture folks physically and spiritually has grown since our start in 2015 with a worship service and meals held in Miesel Hall of St. Mark’s Lutheran church in Brookline.
In March of 2020, when Covid hit, we adapted to the challenges brought by the virus. Saint Marks granted us the use of their parking pad, as the kitchen and and adjoining hall isnot open to the public. The parking pad was large enough to serve outdoors following socially distant guidelines. Our call to feed a struggling community with hospitality and love, was met by serving boxed meals and communion to go every Wednesday. God’s abundant love has provided Meal Partners from a variety of churches and groups that serve on designated Wednesdays, as well faithful Ministry Partners who provide monetary support. Some of these gracious folks are probably reading this with our thanks!!
Some more numbers:
From March 18, 2020, when we began outdoors, until now, we have served 81 Wednesdays! We average 50 meals per week and any meals not distributed are donated to Brookline Meals on Wheels for their clients. That’s approximately 4,000 meals.
However substantial number that number, it is no match for the amount of gratitude we feel to so many for their partnership in the Gospel!
Blessings!
