OFFICE ADMINISTRATOR Job Description
The Southwestern Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America—a nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization—is seeking a candidate to perform general office administration. The Office Administrator reports to the Bishop and works in collaboration with staff and officers.
Anticipated start date: December 2025
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Answer and respond to phone, voicemail, and email
Database management
Retrieve and sort mail
Monitor inventory of office supplies and order/restock
Interface with office vendors
Provide administrative assistance for the bishop, particularly in scheduling and correspondence
Record keeping and archives, maintaining accurate roster and congregation files
Event planning assistance, preparing reports, producing nametags, and organizing meals
Attend and support one annual offsite event lasting up to four days that requires travel (Synod Assembly)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to maintain confidentiality
A strong comfort level with technology and software platforms, including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and database input
Professional communication skills
Attention to detail
Available to respond to occasional pressing needs outside of regular office hours
Knowledge of and respect for the nature of the ELCA’s purpose
Obtain Act 33/34 clearances
This is a 3/4-time salaried position with paid benefits and the potential to grow to a full-time position. Work takes place in-office in the Perrysville area of Ross Township/North Hills with some remote flexibility. This position is open to clergy and non-clergy candidates.
Salary Range: $50-55K
The Synod is exempt under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 from the prohibition on religious discrimination (42 U.S.C. Sec. 2000e-(a)). Employment preference shall normally be given to those maintaining active membership in a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America or one of its full-communion partners, since an understanding of the spirit and purpose of this church is valuable in performing satisfactorily the work of the synod. Otherwise, the synod shall not discriminate against any employee on account of religion in its personnel policies and practices.
