Lutheran Advocacy Ministry in Pennsylvania

lutheranadvocacypa.org

In response to God's love in Jesus Christ, we advocate for wise and just public policies in Pennsylvania that promote the common good. LAMPa equips Lutherans in Pennsylvania to live into their baptismal call to "strive for justice and peace in all the earth."

A partnership of ELCA World Hunger and Pennsylvania Lutheran synods, agencies and institutions, LAMPa is informed by those ministries as we work to end hunger in Pennsylvania and build up communities where all may thrive by encouraging public witness on issues important to the flourishing of God's beloved creation.

Serving, Connecting, & Equipping Congregations:

LAMPa unites Pennsylvania Lutherans in their common priorities, serving as a witness in the halls of government to the ministry our congregations are doing in their communities. We equip disciples of Jesus Christ to testify to their faith and love of neighbor and assist them in connecting with their elected officials, setting an example of civil discourse.

LAMPa does this by monitoring issues of importance and meeting with policymakers, by sharing educational and theological resource materials and training, by connecting passionate Lutheran advocates across the state on issue teams, by sending out calls to action on policies under consideration, by holding an annual Lutheran Day in the Capitol each spring, and by helping congregations add their voices to their service on "God's work. Our hands." Sunday.

As members of the ELCA, we believe that we are freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. God uses our hands, through our direct service work and our voices, through our advocacy efforts, to restore and reconcile our world. Through faithful advocacy, the ELCA lives out our Lutheran belief that governments can help advance the common good. ELCA advocacy works for change in public policy based on the experience of Lutheran ministries, programs and projects around the world and in communities across the United States. We work through political channels on behalf of the following biblical values: peacemaking, hospitality to strangers, care for creation, and concern for people living in poverty and struggling with hunger and disease

Serving, Connecting, & Equipping Congregations:

Together, we achieve things on a scale and scope that we could never do otherwise. When we act as a coordinated network of advocates and reach out to officials on relevant, timely issues, we effectively impact public policies. Explore our curriculum of congregational studies in your own church.

How can congregations support ELCA Advocacy?

We are a church that rolls up our sleeves and gets to work. Stand up for policies that create opportunities to overcome poverty, promote peace and dignity, and defend God’s creation.
